Jan Lederman

Jan has done hundreds of investment deals over a 30-year career as a lawyer, angel investor, advisor, and private equity executive. For the last 10 years, she has focused exclusively on startups and early-stage businesses. She has led boot camps all over the world, judged hundreds of pitch competitions and developed a keen eye for evaluating startup talent.

Jan holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Manitoba, a Program on Negotiation Certificate from Harvard Law School and a Blue Belt in Innovation Engineering. She has been named to Best Lawyers© in Canada in Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity Law. 

Jan currently is a Director of Valhalla Private Capital and a Director of Genome Canada and sits on the Board or Advisory Committee of several startups. She is past Chair of the Board of Governors of the University of Manitoba and a past director of Economic Development Winnipeg. She was the founding Chair of Innovate Manitoba Inc., an industry-led non-profit focused on accelerating innovation and has worked with over 400 startups, researchers an emerging growth companies to assist in the commercialization of their products and services.

Jan was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Award in 2012 and Golden Jubilee Award in 2002, and in 2018 received the University of Manitoba Distinguished Alumni Award.
